Who knew he was so versatile: Tom Cruise entertains with a bizarre impression on Mission:Impossible set

is used to being the centre of attention. And it seems yesterday was no exception as the 48-year-old kept everyone entertained between takes on the set of Mission:Impossible IV in Prague.
Cruise was hanging out on a boat with co-star Jeremy Renner and some crew members from the big budget action thriller, when he exercised his acting talents to show off what looked like his best impression of Quasimodo.... or perhaps someone suffering from severe constipation.

Cruise
The bells! The bells! appeared to do his best impression of Quasimodo yesterday between takes on the Prague set of Mission: Impossible

Whatever it was that he was doing everyone around him seemed to find it extremely funny, laughing and playing along with Cruise.
But in all fairness, you probably come to expect that kind of reaction from people when you're a multi-millionaire A-lister movie star.
The actor then seemed to go into telling a very engaging story which at one point involved him holding his arms out and hands apart to show the size of something - perhaps he was telling a tale about the one that got away during a recent fishing trip.
Cruise
Drink some prune juice! Cruise might of actually been doing an impression of a severely constipated person... it's hard to tell

Cruise has been in the Czech capital for a couple of weeks now filming the fourth instalment of the hit Mission: Impossible franchise.
He's clearly enjoying his time at work and has been seen engaging in a number of daring stunts.
Last week a semi-naked Cruise, stripped to the waist and displaying his muscled torso filmed scenes which simulated him jumping from the third story roof of a building onto a moving truck.
Cruise
I'm telling you, it was THIS big! Maybe Cruise is recounting tales of the 'one that got away' during a recent fishing trip with Katie?
The actor loves to work on his own stunts and believes it brings an extra edge for the audience watching the movie.
'I want to entertain the audience and part of making these movies is doing my own stunts,' he explains. 'I love having the camera right there in front of me, where you can see me holding a shot all the way through.
'I think it adds to the excitement for an audience. It`s something that is challenging to do and fun for me.'
Cruise Grooming: Cruise takes a moment to rearrange his perfect, glossy, thick head of hair

Cruise has certainly had plenty of opportunities to show off his stunt skills recently.
The actor plays secret agent Ethan Hunt in the action packed Mission series which allows for plenty of daredevil antics.
And his last movie, the critically-panned Knight And Day was a non-stop thrill ride from start to finish.
One of the amazing stunts that Cruise pulled off to perfection, along with co-star Cameron Diaz, was on a motorcycle and Cruise claims the idea as his own.
Cruise
Taking a break: Cruise takes a breather from his entertaining duties for a moment to listen to a crew member

While riding a speeding motorcycle, Diaz swings around to Cruise’s frontside, while shooting at a host of people that are in hot pursuit of the pair.
'I called [Director James Mangold] and I said, "Look, I’ve got this stunt. It’s this motorcycle stunt… We’ve gotta put a motorcycle in this scene and I’ve gotta flip her around this thing,"' Tom explained  during an interview with Access Hollywood.
'I called Cameron and said, "Are you up for it?" She came out. We practiced it and stuff and Jim shot it. I couldn’t wait to do that!'
Tom added that he knew Cameron would be up to the task.
'She’s strong enough. The great thing about Cameron is she’s enormously talented, funny and athletic,' Tom gushed.
'There’s a lot of trust because she had full flash blanks in the gun as she’s going around [me], they’re coming past my head and she was always — you have to be there with someone and really know that they’re gonna be there.'

Should the Simon Wiesenthal Center honor Tom Cruise?

Photo
Let’s for a moment put aside the indelible image of Tom Cruise giddily love-jumping on Oprah’s couch. Even slightly deranged movie stars deserve to fall in love.
Let’s instead go with another image, perhaps also perplexing to digest, but one the Simon Wiesenthal Center Museum of Tolerance would like you to see: Tom Cruise, humanitarian.
Picture it: There he is rolling up his custom-made sleeves in Rwanda. There he is again, hugging orphaned children in Haiti. And after that, it’s “Top Gun” redux, as he flies his cargo-loaded jet into Tsunami-stricken Japan.
Or was that George Clooney?
If those images are hard to see, it’s probably because I made them up. And if this subjective measure of what makes a humanitarian seems unfair – sources in ’s camp assure me he’s the consummate philanthropist and gives away “tens of millions”– it’s probably because it is. But even so, tapping Cruise with a “humanitarian” award still seems an odd choice, since one authentic and indisputable aspect of his image is as public champion for the Church of Scientology—and that impenetrable behemoth is reportedly under investigation by the FBI for alleged human trafficking.
The fact that the Wiesenthal Center plans to honor Cruise on May 5 with the 2011 Humanitarian Award is either brilliant strategy or terrible hypocrisy. And it has Tom-lovers-and-haters alike in a tizzy.
One online message board oppugning Cruise’s worthiness quipped, “Hey I know another actor for this prize”—and followed with a wacky photo of Mel Gibson. Another online forum that caters exclusively to “ex-Scientologists” contained a thread around the question: “Do you believe that Tom Cruise is a humanitarian, like within the context of all the other humanitarians who actually did something humanitarian? Like, I don’t know, someone who raised money and went out and cleared landmines, or someone who worked and risked their [life] to stop an actual genocide?”
To be fair, many of the Wiesenthal Center’s honorees from the entertainment industry do not do that type of work. And, yet, every year the center hosts a swanky dinner in Beverly Hills for titans of the industry, the centerpiece of which is the bestowal of the Humanitarian Award—the museum’s highest honor—upon individuals who ostensibly promote human welfare, but perhaps more importantly, can get their friends to write big checks to the museum. Hollywood, as you might imagine, is quite good at this, and over the years recipients have included luminaries like Elizabeth Taylor and Michael Douglas, Amy Pascal, Will Smith, Ron Howard and Brian Grazer.
Under these criteria—since Cruise is apparently a big giver and obviously a big star—he would seem a natural fit. Perhaps his religious/spiritual affiliations should not matter; why assume that his chosen spiritual system holds any kind of sway in influencing his values? How horrifically unfair to expect public spokespeople to be held accountable for the interior affairs of the organizations they represent.
cannot be responsible for an entire religion,” film director Brett Ratner, who sits on the Wiesenthal’s board of trustees said to me by phone last week.  “You can’t say he’s the reason the religion is doing what it’s doing. That’s like saying, ‘The Jews killed f———Jesus; why am I a Jew?’”
The Simon Wiesenthal Center is, after all, home to the Museum of Tolerance, which preaches openness and understanding, “promotes human rights and dignity” and is dedicated to “raising awareness about contemporary issues” (as stated in the tribute invitation). Yet, to the chagrin of some, honorees are not selected based upon their religious persuasion but rather, their commitment to the museum.
Rosalie Zalis, senior vice president of Pacific Capital Group and a Wiesenthal trustee said Cruise has been a “major giver” to the museum for almost two decades, and that he’s been a supporter of the Holocaust Studies program.
“There aren’t too many other people, besides Spielberg and Katzenberg, who have really supported Holocaust studies the way he has,” she said. And she is hardly bothered by the unruly elephant in the room: “I don’t know anything about Scientology,” she said. “It’s just like Islam—as we say ‘not all Muslims are terrorists,’ but to date it seems most terrorists have been Muslims, and yet, you can’t condemn all Muslims. Just because someone is a Scientologist, you can’t condemn them as a trafficker.”
When Lawrence Wright, writing for The New Yorker, first reported the investigation into the Church of Scientology in a lengthy expose published last February, the rumor mills spun into high gear. Picking up on the scandal (without verifying its veracity, because it’s the New Yorker, after all) news aggregates blared headlines implicating Cruise: “Scientology Under FBI Investigation For Work Done For Tom Cruise,” ran one headline, posted on The Huffington Post on Feb. 8. Follow-up calls to the Los Angeles FBI offices to confirm the story’s facts were fruitless, since official policy prohibits officers from confirming or denying an investigation.
“It’s true that the FBI doesn’t normally confirm or deny an investigation, but this was an exception,” Wright, the author of the 25,000-word story wrote in an email, adding, “I can’t really disclose why that is or how it came about. I can tell you that nothing I heard from the FBI involved Cruise.”
Phew.
“We should not engage in any guilt by association,” Rabbi Marvin Hier, dean and founder of the Wiesenthal Center said. He is focusing on Cruise-the-individual, not Cruise-the Scientology missionary. “We’ve given a medal of valor to the Pope. Does that mean we agree with everything the church has done? No.”
Hier added that the museum is accustomed to taking flack for its high-profile choices, which are determined by the entertainment dinner chairs: Paramount Pictures CEO Brad Grey, CAA Super-agent and partner Kevin Huvane, Dreamworks Animation CEO Jeffrey Katzenberg, Warner Bros. Entertainment CEO Barry Meyer, Universal Studios president Ron Meyer and Fox Filmed Entertainment CEO Tom Rothman. As it often goes in Hollywood, the bigger the celebrity, the bigger the corresponding controversy.
“When we honored Ted Kennedy a long time ago, we received an enormous amount of criticism – enormous!” Hier said. “Because of Chappaquiddick. But we honored him as a great senator and a person who contributed to society. So if you’re asking me if this is the first time we’ve received letters or emails? Not by any stretch of the imagination.”
This could require some Cruise control. One insider suggested Cruise’s handlers may have pressed for the recognition, a little positive PR to keep his image pristine (not that they’d admit it isn’t). For the Church of Scientology, humanitarianism appears to be a value: the official Website lists six different educational projects advocating social responsibility, including programs for criminal rehabilitation and increasing literacy.
Of course, it’s possible Cruise is one of those “quiet givers” who donates munificently to a plethora of organizations. According to the Website looktothestars.org, an online organization that tracks celebrity giving, Cruise has supported the Children’s Hospice & Palliative Care Coalition, the Jackie Chan Charitable Foundation and Mentor LA; he also serves as a board member for the Hollywood Education and Literacy Project, a position for which he received an Excellence in Mentoring Award, in 2003, from the National Mentoring Partnership.
All nice things, Tom Cruise, but does giving away lots of dough a humanitarian make?
That’s a question the Wiesenthal Center’s leadership should ponder, for themselves, at least, if not for their viewing public. Because it could be that for the world’s biggest box office draw, writing a check is easy. Even in Hollywood, plenty of celebrities go much further—Clooney, Angelina Jolie and Sean Penn, for instance—all glamorous movie stars who don’t need to prove their justice work, because we’ve seen it.

Richard Hammond... the one man shorter than Tom Cruise! Top Gear presenter dwarfed by Mission Impossible star at premiere

At just 5ft 7.75in tall, it's rare that finds a celebrity male shorter than him.
So the 49-year-old actor must have been delighted when he found out that Top Gear presenter Richard Hammond was on the guest list for the premiere of Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol last night.
Cruise grinned widely posed up with Hammond, who, at 5ft 7in is estimated to be just 2cm shorter than Cruise, outside the BFI Imax in Waterloo last night.
But neither Cruise nor Hammond had any chance of competing on the height front with Hammond's fellow Top Gear host Jeremy Clarkson, who is almost a foot taller than Hammond at a towering 6ft 5in.

Cruise posed up with Hammond and Clarkson after having become friends with the pair when taking part in the Star In A Reasonably Priced Car segment on the BBC show while promoting movie Knight And Day last year.

Despite speculation that Cruise's wife Katie Holmes would be joining him at last night's London premiere, the star instead went solo on the red carpet for the star-studded event.
After arriving at the premiere, Cruise stuck to his usual protocol by spending hours meeting his fans, and even speaking to their mothers, before making his way inside.

The actor was snapped posing for the hordes of cameras outside the IMAX, where the film is being screened in 3D.
But once the flashbulbs had started to subside, or as other guests made their way up the red carpet, Tom went straight for his fans, who had been waiting outside in the cold and the rain for a glimpse of their idol.
And they got more than a glimpse as Tom stopped and chatted with them and posed for photos, which left a couple of his female fans somewhat excited, as they looked at each other and screamed.

Tom is in the capital to promote the fourth film in the Mission: Impossible series which is released in the UK on Boxing Day and in the U.S. on the 21st.
He was joined at the premiere by co-star Simon Pegg, who was joined by his wife Maureen McCann, and who looked very smart in his grey suit.

Having joined her co-stars for the premieres in Dubai - where a lot of the film was shot - Germany and Spain, Paula Patton wasn't going to miss out on the London fun.

Also attending was Top Gear presenter Richard Hammond and his wife Mindy and his co-star Jeremy Clarkson who arrived with his daughter. Both know Cruise after he appeared on the show last year.
Other guests included Sinitta and Caprice, who defied the icy temperatures in a very short strapless red dress.
The film sees Cruise's character Ethan Hunt take on a new mission after a bomb attack on the Kremlin in Russia forces the U.S. President to initiate 'Ghost Protocol', which means that the entire IMF - Impossible Missions Force, a fictional independent espionage agency employed by the US government - has been disavowed.

The film also marks the action debut for director Brad Bird, who is best known for writing and directing Disney/Pixar's The Incredibles and Ratatouille.
It was produced by Lost creator J.J Abrams, who directed Cruise in the third instalment of this movie franchise.

And once again, Cruise gave insurance agencies the fear as he insisted on doing his own stunts again, and in this film he is seen dangling precariously 2,000ft up as he clings on to the Burj Kahlifa in Dubai, the tallest building in the world, which, even by his standards, was Cruise's most dangerous yet.
Speaking to the Daily Record this summer, he said: 'I want to entertain the audience and part of making these movies is doing my own stunts.

How Tom Cruise managed to appear taller than Katie in wedding photos

Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes wedding
A tall tale?: Tom Cruise appears taller than his new wife Katie
When the groom is two inches shorter than the bride, it?s difficult to see how a couple could carry off the cheek-to-cheek photograph.
But if the newlyweds are  and Katie Holmes, anything is possible.
More pictures and videos from Tom and Katie's wedding...
Pictures: Tom and Katie celebrate their fairy tale wedding

Maybe she was bending her knees or wearing flat pumps. Perhaps he was wearing lifts in his shoes. Because somehow, in their official wedding shots, the 5ft 7in actor became a touch taller than his 27-year-old wife.
However, it was not just the photographs that were other than they seemed.
Yesterday it emerged that the couple had already married in secret in America. Cruise's agent Arnold Robinson said they had 'officialised' the marriage in Los Angeles before travelling to Italy for the three-day Scientology wedding, said to have cost £5million.
For some, the announcement cast a shadow on the event at Odescalchi Castle in Bracciano, near Rome. It was criticised for being a stunt to raise awareness of the Scientology religion.
Local priest Father Nicola Fiorentini said: 'It wasn't a wedding at all. It was just for publicity. I can't believe such an event was allowed to take place at all.'
The Church of Scientology's influence was explicit throughout the event.
Cruise's best man was the church's leader David Miscavige. A Scientology adviser was thought to have been at each table at the wedding banquet.
Miss Holmes, who wore an off-the-shoulder Giorgio Armani ivory gown with a silk Valenciennes lace train and Swarovski embroidered crystals, walked down the aisle with her father Martin.
Cruise, wearing a navy, single-breasted Armani tuxedo, and Miss Holmes then exchanged bizarre Scientology vows and swopped rings designed by Italian silversmith David Orgel.
The 45-minute service ended with red and white rose petals ? the colours of Scientology ? falling from nets held in the hall ceiling. As the flowers fell, the couple enjoyed a rather excruciating three-minute kiss ? stopping only after embarrassed guests begged them to. Then a 15-minute, £100,000 firework display was set off in the grounds of the castle.
Guests, who included Jennifer Lopez, Jim Carrey, Will Smith, Brooke Shields and Victoria Beckham, were then led indoors for a three-course wedding breakfast and all-night dancing.
After a champagne toast, waiters served a parma ham, buffalo mozzarella and vine tomato platter, then an Italian beef dish. Guests left with £5,000 Armani goodie bags. The next morning the couple flew to the Maldives for their honeymoon.

Czech this out! Tom Cruise and Jeremy Renner film Mission: Impossible IV scenes in Prague's freezing waters

Talk about suffering for your art!
and Jeremy Renner braved bone chilling temperatures on Saturday night as they plunged into water measuring around 14 degrees Fahrenheit in the Vltava river.
The pair were filming scenes for the upcoming Mission Impossible IV.

The weather was so cold you could see the breath forming around the actors' mouths. However, neither was allowed to wear a wetsuit  for their waterlogged action scenes.

While Cruise, 48,  was lucky enough to don a black leather jacket before leaping into the chilly waters, Renner, 39, had to film his scenes wearing nothing but a suit.

Night time temperatures outside the water were at least a little warmer, measuring at around 30 degrees Fahrenheit.

Directed by Brad Bird, other actors involved in the film include Josh Holloway, Lea Seydoux, Paula Patton, Ving Rhames, Simon Pegg and Michael Nyqvist.
According to Variety, plot details of the movie are strictly under wraps  as is the official title fo the fourth instalment , although it has been confirmed that the movie will not carry on where Mission Impossible III left off.
Unlike the previous three Mission Impossible movies, Cruise's character - Ethan Hunt -  is working with only one other agent, played by Jeremy Renner, and his role is apparently as large as Cruise's.
There's also speculation that Renner could play the lead role in future Mission Impossible films and eventually replace Cruise.
Cruise is co-producing the movie with Lost creator J.J. Abrams, who has cast one of Lost's biggest stars - Josh Holloway - in the movie.
Mission Impossible IV is due to be released on December 16 in the United States.
