Some might think that the pale, washed-out color of ash would be too dull for a major item of furniture. It would be obvious that those people haven't bothered to shop in a designer's showroom any time in recent years. The innocuous coloring lends itself equally well to monolithic towering bookshelves, the abstract lines of a headboard or the intricate workmanship of a well-made table. Some might say that the wood's color is so soft and simple that it doesn't draw attention away from the craftsman's labors. I would have to agree.

The biggest thing to look for when you shop for quality ash furniture is the workmanship and that there are no obvious flaws in the wood or that work. After all, with the coloring so diffident, any scratches or mismatched joinery is going to scream loudly when you look at it. Even stained, the wood doesn't shout look at my grain. Instead it quietly complements the pieces lines. That's how you know that you've found a well-crafted bit of furnishing that will easily find a niche in your décor. Of course, maybe a poolside chair made of baseball bats wouldn't look too bad?
