For many artists, the shadow cast by their work would be an afterthought, but for Diet Wiegman, that is all that he is concerned with.
The Dutch artist, whose work was highlighted by Buzzfeed, makes sculptures out of random pieces of trash but then positions a light in a key spot so as to create a shadow with far more pizazz than one would initially predict.
Colorful interpretation: This piece shows a
shadow that distinctly looks like Venus de Milo but the original
sculpture shows no similarity to the famed work
Alternative Atlas: The round disks that were used in this piece gives Atlas a few key muscles
Copying the master: The sculpture of Michael
Jackson's moon walk comes thirty years to the day when he first tried
out the move publicly
Others pay homage to other famous silhouettes, like a moon-walking Michael Jackson.
Modern masterpiece: the sculpture doesn't give the projection of the ideal male form like David is supposed to
Global cuisine: The leftovers on this plate were obviously placed with care
Symbolic: The way that artist Diet Wiegman was
able to arrange the materials in this one to create the poison symbol
appears a mystery
Self aware: The 'painting' is titled Shadow Out Of Shadow
Impossible feats: This piece plays on the story
of Sisyphus, who was punished for his deceitfulness by being ordered to
repeatedly push a boulder up a hill
View from home: the random assortment of small sculptures produces a 'Dutch Landscape' in this piece
Dollars and cents: A necklace helps drives the
point of the piece on the left home, while the random assortment of dots
looks a bit like a collection of change
Influence of artists: The arrangement of the chairs is reminiscent of the work of Salvador Dali
