'SKY''S LIMIT Cruz and Cruise have split

Trying to predict Tom Cruise's moves has become a risky business. First came word that Cruise split with his longtime publicist, and now the star has parted ways with his girlfriend of three years, actress Penélope Cruz. Representatives for both of the stars told People.com that the split, which quietly took place back in January, was amicable. ''They remain good friends and still talk often,'' Cruz spokesperson Robert Garlock told People. ''There is no other person involved [in the split].''
An anonymous source close to the relationship told People it ''just ran its course,'' adding: ''Through most of the relationship they were both shooting movies in separate parts of the world.'' Cruz's rep told People that the split had nothing to do with Cruise's religion, Scientology, explaining that Cruz had found the church's teachings ''beneficial,'' despite not converting to the religion. Cruise and Cruz, who costarred in 2001's ''Vanilla Sky,'' started dating that year, after Cruise split from then-wife Nicole Kidman.
