'I certainly never thought I'd have a baby at 41. But we never know what's around the corner,' adds the actress who is mother to two-year-old Sunday Rose and newborn Faith Margaret, who was carried via a surrogate mother.
The 43-year-old star also discusses the personal sacrifices she made when she married Cruise back in 1990.
'I was never seeking to be a celebrity. But I was prepared to do that for love. And that is something that is hard to do.
'It’s hard when you’re young. But I’m ready to give up anything for love because, ultimately, that is what you have. You get so much from a relationship when it is filled with love.'
Kidman and Cruise were seen as one of Hollywood's hottest couples when they started dating in 1989 after meeting on the set of their movie Days of Thunder.
'You don't think of yourself like that,' she tells the magazine. 'I knew he was a really big star, but after a while, to get to a real place in a relationship, that has to wear off
'As a couple we were very private. We were not out a lot and we were very, very tight and that’s why we lasted ten years, which is a good amount of time, particularly when you get married at 23.
'That was a great relationship. It was great,' she adds. 'I think it ran its course.'
Cruise and Kidman adopted two children during their marriage, Isabella, now 18, and Connor, 15, who live with the Mission Impossible star in Los Angeles.
Now and then: Nicole Kidman with her second husband Keith Urban, and at the 2000 Oscars with Tom Cruise
Kidman now lives in Nashville Tennessee after marrying Urban back in 2006.
'I'm crazy in love,' she says. 'I think you can live anywhere and do anything when you're crazy in love.
'I'm very driven by falling in love. I fall in love and I'll drop everything and change everything.'
Kidman, who is nominated for a Best Actress Oscar for her role in Rabbit Hole, also addresses the rumour she has used Botox.
'Well, I move my forehead, I frown. I tried it, I didn’t like it, so I’ve gone back to my own forehead,' she admits. 'But I’ve never had plastic surgery on my face. People say I have but I haven’t.'
