Tom 'the taskmaster' Cruise puts wife Katie Holmes through her paces on long-distance run

As one of Hollywood's A-listers, Katie Holmes needs to keep her figure in shape all year round.
And who better to help her stay trim than her own husband Tom Cruise.
Spotted jogging with his son Connor in Boston yesterday, the actor was a hard taskmaster as he shouted for his wife to run 'harder' and 'faster'.

'Harder, faster,': Tom runs backwards as he motivates his wife

There was no danger of Katie, 30, slacking off as her husband put her through her paces.
Despite having accomplished the New York marathon two years ago, it was 47-year-old Tom calling the shots during the afternoon sprint from Boston city centre along the Charles River to nearby Cambridge and back again.
Wearing grey jogging shorts and a black Nike vest, Katie kept in the zone as she listened to music on her iPod.
Her stepson Connor, 14, also kept his mind occupied during the job with his iPod, while his dad declined a running soundtrack.

Katie has been a fan of jogging since crediting it with losing her post-baby weight following the birth of Suri in 2006.
With the weekend off filming, Tom enjoyed some quality time with son Connor and younger daughter Suri, three.

 

After the family run, the trio reunited with Suri for a spot of shopping in Boston's city centre.
They also delighted customers and staff at popular Italian eaterie Bricco when they signed autographs and posed for photographs after dining.

Diner Jerry Maffeo told the Boston Herald: 'They really loved [the food]. Then, when they came downstairs, they took pictures with the staff and they shook hands with everybody.
'He even called all the chefs out of the kitchen and took pictures with them, too.
'And then Tom shook hands with everybody outside on the sidewalk.'
The Cruise family have been staying in Boston since last month while Tom films his new movie Wichita with Cameron Diaz.

In between filming, Tom and Katie have been spotted jogging together on a regular basis.
Wichita marks the second time Tom, 47, and Cameron have worked together.
The blonde actress played Tom's unstable girlfriend Julie in the 2001 thriller Vanilla Sky.
The new film, directed by James Mangold, is an action comedy about a small town girl (Cameron) who has a chance encounter with a secret agent, played by Tom.
